* Save on your heating and cooling bills by having windows designed for the Florida weather.
People move to Florida for sunshine, and they get it! Across the state, it's best to minimize east and west exposures which are hard to shade in mornings and afternoons. The sun can be brutally hot. Residents constantly deal with high winds, torrential storms and, in some years, sudden frost. Now you can save on energy costs, receive a $1,500 Federal tax credit, and protect your home from sun and the elements by installing Energy Star vinyl replacement windows in your Florida home.
Some Floridians have enjoyed lower energy costs with the installation of replacement windows. Typical Miami cost to replace ten double-hung windows with insulated vinyl replacement windows was less than $10,000 in 2008-2009. Between energy savings and estimated resale advantages, many homeowners feel satisfied that they have achieved a solid return on investment as a result of replacement windows. Similar costs and benefts were reported for Jacksonville and Tampa window replacement projects.

If you want to get the most out of your windows, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends they have a minimum U-Factor of 0.65 and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.40 in Florida. The U-Factor measures heat flow and the SHGC rates the heat absorption qualities. To qualify for the $1,500 tax credit, however, Floridians must install replacement windows with a U-Factor of 0.30 and SHGC of 0.30--or less.
Florida contractors who work on window replacement projects must have a residential or general contractor's license from the local government or, if required by county, hold a certified license with a glass and glazing specialty from the state of Florida. Check with your county to ensure you're hiring a window contractor who meets all requirements.
