Low-E Florida Replacement Windows

Many homeowners believe that "Low-E" is a good option for replacement windows in cold climates since the specially-designed coating allows the sun's heat to be absorbed, but doesn't allow it to escape back outside.

But what about Florida? Should you bother with the extra expense of Low-E windows in a hot climate where you want extra heat kept out of the house--rather than sealed in?

Low-E Replacement Windows: Not Just for Cold Climates

Low-E window replacements were originally designed in the 1980s to reduce heat loss but let in the sun's heat, but today's high-tech Low-E replacement windows are perfect for hot climates as well. Manufacturers now offer Low-E window replacements with special coatings designed for hot regions such as Florida that let in 40 percent less solar heat. Less heat enters the house through the glass, so the house can get cooled easier and faster.

What is Low-E?

Anytime you see Low-E on a replacement window it means a "low emittance" coating was placed on the window. This microscopically thin coating is made from metal or metal-oxide layers that are glazed on the surface of the window. The goal is to reduce and block infrared light, IR, (the light which causes heat) and ultraviolet light, UV, (which can cause floors and furnishing to fade colors).
